In a visually pleasing blend of urban flair and goated running-shoe heritage, the Swoosh powerhouse delivers the Nike Phoenix Waffle. Arriving as a remodelling of two OG Nike veterans, the shoe is due to drop this AW23.
Nike’s plethora of aesthetically dynamic models over the years can sometimes make us forget where the brand came from. Undeniably – a solely athletic based company that specialised in performance-based running sneakers. The Phoenix Waffle oozes nostalgia, achieved by reminiscing archival running silhouettes like the Nike Pegasus and Waffle. This heritage-coded release feels very authentic to the heart of the Swoosh brand, and we’re very excited about it.
The first of two contrasting colourways arrives in a sleek palette of champagne, off-white, grey and black distributed through each segment of the silhouette. Its shiny mesh base adds an elegant touch to the model, adorned with light grey suede and black leather overlays. The Swoosh takes on a black hue, replicated within the tongue and insole branding. The heel branding, however, adopts “NIKE” in grey, complimented by a smooth midsole that harmoniously unites the palette. The silhouette is completed with an on brand waffle-patterned outsole, which adopts the colour black.
The “University Gold” colourway boasts a not-so-modest palette of striking golden hues. The textural combination of glossy mesh, brushed suede and leather helps to breathe life into these kicks. This brings an entirely different vibe to the table; especially when compared to their laid-back counterpart. However, one thing that both palettes have in common is their distinctive ability to provide durability and comfort, as per their OG-runner predecessors.
Update 7/9/23: If we weren’t gassed for the release of the Nike Phoenix Waffle before, then we definitely are now. In newly teased imagery, we’ve got a hint of two more colourways joining the upcoming autumn/winter drop. With one of the new additions flaunting a strong violet hue, while the other takes a neutral stance – there’s a palette for everyone. If one things for sure, it’s that this model is due to make its mark in A LOT of peoples AW sneaker rotations.
