PUMA x Offspring 20th Anniversary Madrid Pack – Available Now
To help it celebrate 20 years of hawking the very best in trainers in Covent Garden, Offspring has collaborated with PUMA and announced the PUMA X OFFSPRING 20TH ANNIVERSARY MADRID PACK.
This update to the beloved Madrid introduces two fresh colourways, a black version and a blueish grey number, as well as coloured accents that are inspired by the ’96 Euros semifinal between En-ger-land and Germany at Wembley – the shoes feature German and English flag decals on the heel and lace tips. Confused English sneakerheads wondering why Offspring chose this traumatic event, where, surprise surprise, England was knocked by the Germans after a penalty shootout (we’re sure PUMA loves all this), should know that ’96 was the shop’s first year of business. Putting that unpleasant memory aside, these really are a fine pair of trainers.
The new Madrids include top notch fabrics and detailing, the traditional gold foil logo and it’s finished with Offspring’s 20th anniversary label on the tongue. Moving away from ’96 for a moment, the PUMA Madrid was borne in 1970 and was designed for handball, a popular sport in the Spanish capital. In fact, it’s not uncommon for Spanish football teams to have a counterpart handball team, too. The Madrid was designed with fans of both sports in mind, hence its solid gum sole unit, making it suitable for on the court or on the terraces.
