If you’re a fan of colourful kicks, you’re in luck! New Balance are bringing allllll the playful energy in their recently debuted Y2K 550 Patent Pack, an ode to the 2000s movement that’s been dominating our algorithms.
If you’re looking at this silhouette thinking, it’s giving vintage, you’d be correct. Originally debuting back in the 80s as a basketball shoe, the 550 repped a two-toned colourway that gained appreciation beyond the court. However, due to its inability to compare to more advanced basketball sneakers of the time, the shoe faced an untimely demise that saw it cut from the market. But, like most sneaker retro’s, the journey didn’t end there. You guessed it – the 550 endured an iconic revival in 2020 by none other than Aimé Leon Dore (shout out Teddy Santis)! And we’re very thankful that it did.
Arriving in perfect timing for the upcoming Spring/Summer months, the NB classic is receiving a shiny makeover, flooded in a spectrum of bright hues. Let’s take a look at the pack!
As hinted by the name, both of these kicks flaunt glossy patent leather uppers, annunciated through eye-catching pops of colour. The first iteration of the pack flaunts a baby pink base with electric green overlays, decorated with yellow accents within the laces, “N” emblem and outer segments. Reminding us of a nicely packaged bag of candy, we’re certain that this shoe will make a sweet addition to your roster.
The counterpart iteration, showcasing hues of pink, red and baby blue, continues the sugary energy, grounded by a chocolate brown outside. Both members of the New Balance 550 Patent Leather Pack are made complete with 2000s-coded branding on the heel, the cherry on top to these bold offerings.
