2025 marks the 35th anniversary of the legendary Air Jordan 5, and Nike is celebrating in style with a series of retro releases. The year began with the striking ‘Black Metallic Reimagined’ and will soon see the arrival of the beloved ‘Grape’ colourway.
Yet, it is perhaps the highly anticipated return of the Air Jordan 5 OG ‘Fire Red’ that has fans most excited.
Rumours of this comeback began circulating at the end of 2024, and as we approach the autumn, the wait is finally over. The ‘Fire Red’ is an iconic colourway that marries white, red, and black with a bold black tongue adorned by the signature red Jumpman logo, paying homage to its original 1990 debut.
Since its introduction, the ‘Fire Red’ has seen multiple rereleases in two main variants: one with a black tongue and one with a silver tongue. The black-tongue OG last hit shelves in 2013, followed by the silver-tongue edition in 2020. Now, over a decade later, the original black-tongue version is set to make a long-awaited return.
The design of the Air Jordan 5, originally crafted by Tinker Hatfield, drew inspiration from World War II fighter planes, a detail reflected in the sneaker’s distinctive shark-tooth midsole and reflective tongue. The 2025 release remains faithful to this heritage, with premium white leather uppers, mesh side panels, a striking black tongue with red Jumpman branding, and classic ‘Nike Air’ detailing on the heel.
The bold red midsole, shark-tooth accents, and translucent outsole complete the look, ensuring a release that is both nostalgic and impeccably crafted.
The Air Jordan 5 OG ‘Fire Red’ will officially drop on September 13, 2025, available via Nike, selected Jordan Brand retailers, and online platforms. Fans can expect full-family sizing, making this a release for collectors and newcomers alike.
