Nike-Air-Jordan-1-Satin-Banned

Jordan Brand opened a pop-up shop in NYC’s SoHo district to sell limited quantities of the Nike AIR JORDAN 1 SATIN ‘BANNED’.

As the legend has it, way back in 1984, in a plot line that could have been ripped straight out of the pages of 1984, the famous dystopian novel by George Orwell, the totalitarians at the NBA banned Michael Jordan’s red and black Air Jordan 1s for the cardinal sin of violating the league’s conservative uniform code. That didn’t exactly stymie the popularity of the iconic black and red high top, which is universally popular and has proven to have a lot of staying power. To celebrate that day of infamy, Air Jordan opened the pop-up on 18 October at 10:18am, to commemorate the exact date in ’84 the ban took effect, selling 501 pairs, each of which are individually numbered. The upper, constructed entirely with satin in a homage to the warmup gear Jordan would wear, features Nike Air branding on the tongue, a quilted leather in-sole, gold aglets and, of course, the stitched Wings logo.

As you’d expect, the 501 limited quantities of the AIR JORDAN 1 SATIN ‘BANNED’ quickly sold out. Keep checking back for any further information on a wider release but in the meantime, you can click the banner below to check the current Jordan footwear range at Nike.
