Deutschland

In a jaw-dropping twist in football, the German national team has ditched their long-time partner adidas after 70 years and decided to partner up with their biggest competitor, Nike, instead. The German Football Association (DFB) dropped the bombshell on 21st March 2024, announcing that from 2027, all German squads will be repping Nike threads.

This new Nike deal runs until 2034, marking the end of a beautiful partnership with adidas. For seven decades, German teams have sported legendary adidas kits during epic matches, from World Cups to European Championships. But now, it’s a whole new ball game for German football.

A Surprising Move…

The news hit like a lightning bolt, especially since the German lads are currently training at adidas HQ for the upcoming European Championship. Even adidas looked like they’d been smacked in the face by the surprise switch to their arch-rival! In a short statement, adidas simply said they’d been told the DFB was moving on to a new supplier from 2027.

Afterwards, the DFB clarified their decision to team up with Nike on the online platform X (formerly Twitter), pointing to Nike’s enticing financial offer and their ambitious vision for shaping the future of German football.

As the 2026 FIFA World Cup gears up to be the final hurrah for adidas kits, mixed feelings swirl around the end of the adidas era. But with Nike stepping up, German football’s future looks like a thrilling rollercoaster ride. However, let’s not rush ahead just yet – we still have the pleasure of admiring the splendid jerseys adidas has crafted for the German National team for the EURO 2024.
