Ballet is having a moment—better get used to it. Following the recent release of the PUMA Speedcat Ballet, adidas is now unveiling its own ballet-inspired sneaker. This time, it’s the adidas Taekwondo, a silhouette set to make a comeback in 2025. With the recently revealed Bad Bunny collaboration, the timing of this new take couldn’t be better.
The Taekwondo has an interesting history. Originally introduced in 1988 for the sport of taekwondo (as the name suggests), the sneaker was re-released in 2019 with a double cupsole. Now, five years later, the adidas Taekwondo has undergone yet another transformation—this time as a lifestyle model.
The latest iteration in the series is the Taekwondo Mei Ballet. This version features a minimalistic design where the upper has been removed, leaving only laces to hold the foot in place—much like a traditional ballet shoe. The look is completed with a gum sole that covers only the forefoot and heel.
Signature adidas branding appears on the midfoot with the iconic three stripes, while additional branding details are placed on the heel. The adidas Taekwondo Mei Ballet will debut in three colourways: ‘Silver’, ‘White’, and ‘Black’. Take a look at the official images of these sneakers—or should we say ballet flats—below.
The adidas Taekwondo Mei Ballet is expected to drop in 2025 via adidas and selected retailers. Keep an eye on The Drop Date release calendar for updates.
