The SIZE? X ADIDAS ORIGINALS ATHEN in the red and white colourway is the second drop in this pack, following the blue and white version we saw back in October.
The bright red suede upper is contrasted with white leather on the eyestay, Three Stripes branding, heel and laces. The gum sole rounds off the classic look. Attractive as it is, the red and white colour combination is actually pretty rare in the U.K., so we’re well pleased that it is making a comeback. This collaboration between the retailer and German brand is part of the Archive Collection, which celebrate’s The Three Stripes’ heritage and output. Other than the two iterations of the Athen, the chaps at size? also released their take on the 350 Suede in September – a silhouette originally designed in the ’80s specifically for the Asian market. Switching our attention back to the Athen: this silhouette is of course named after Greece’s capital city and the first home of the Olympic Games. The blue and white colourway was the original from when the shoe first dropped in the late ’60s, matching Greece’s flag. As The Drop Date explained in October, the Athen was one of the early adidas City Series trainers and is rarely reissued – the last release was way back in 2004 to coincide with that year’s Athens Olympic Games. Our advice to you now is the same as it was then: act quick if you want a pair as, due to the scarcity and the limited release, they are expected to fly off shelves.
The SIZE? X ADIDAS ORIGINALS ATHEN will be available on FRIDAY 16 DECEMBER at SIZE? via the banner below.
