We’d been waiting for this latest collection in the NIKE X UNDERCOVER GYAKUSOU series for a hot minute – and it hasn’t disappointed. Whilst the product range has obviously been created with running and training in mind, we’re happy to celebrate the range on a less athletic level too and incorporate key pieces into our everyday wardrobe.
The GYAKUSOU range was created in conjunction with Jun Takahashi, founder of the Undercover clothing label in Japan, and aimed to create the perfect footwear and apparel range for running. As you might expect, everything has been designed with a symbiotic approach and individual items work well on their own or as part of a full outfit. This collection for Spring/Summer 2013 has been designed with the Honolulu marathon in mind, so the emphasis has been placed on creating lightweight products that function well in hot conditions.
The whole range is impressive, but the footwear is where our attentions are focused and the new season’s offerings are amongst the best technical running shoes we’ve seen. As with most performance products in this category, you’d expect lightweight construction, but Jun’s clever use of layering and colours gives a unique ‘tough’ edge to the shoes. The Lunarglide 4+ JP is the slightly lighter of the two models this season, with a minimal mesh upper section and the Lunarlon midsole, whilst the Lunarspider LT+ 3 JP features similar mesh sections but with Flywire supports to add extra stability.
As always, the colour palette that’s been used on all elements is fantastic: deep navy blues and pinky-grey tones mix with bright orange and purple accents, resulting in a range that will turn heads whether you’re on the running track, in the park or simply walking down the street.
The NIKE X UNDERCOVER GYAKUSOU SS ’13 Collection released at the beginning of March and can be found online with the following UK Stockists…
