The NIKE WMNS AIR AQUA RIFT OMNIPATTERN shines the spotlight on one of the most innovative releases from the Nike running archives.
The Nike Air Rift first dropped in 1996, inspired by the efficient barefoot style of Kenyan distance runners. In recognition of these superior athletes, the shoe debuted in the colours of the aforementioned country’s flag and took its name from Kenya’s Rift Valley province. The topography of Kenya’s rugged and challenging environment provided a second source of inspiration for the shoe’s defining characteristic: a segmented, partially-detached toe which creates articulation between the wearer’s first and second toes. Underneath, the pared-down sole unit shows that the Rift is well-suited to all terrains with an extra emphasis on providing strong traction.
Following several brief reappearances over the years, the Rift hits the streets once again in this new redesigned Aqua form, taking inspiration from Japanese Geta footwear and utilising material elements influenced by Nike’s Aqua Gear line. Entitled ‘Omnipattern’, this is one of the liveliest options for the forthcoming summer months.
