When news that the NIKE OMEGA FLAME was joining Nike’s retro schedule for 2021, we couldn’t believe it. A legendary piece of footwear from 1983, the Omega Flame is one of those shoes where its appeal stretches far and wide, from the football terraces through to the b-boy’s linoleum. And if you thought that the TN was the first Nike shoe to feature that amazing fade across the top, then you might just find this one particularly interesting…
1983 was a good year for Nike releases, to say the least. There was the Air Force 1 Low, Pegasus 83, Diablo, Oceania, Internationalist… and then there was the Omega Flame. Back then especially, there was no way that something that eye-catching was escaping unnoticed – and things have been that way ever since. One of the first Nike designs to feature a fade or gradient treatment across the upper (also seen on the Nike Kite and the accompanying Flame running spike), this release was extremely popular and has reached grail status for many of those who missed out when the original edition dropped. Since then, we’ve seen customs on Pegasus retros… battered OG pairs selling for a small fortune… but now the team from size? are responsible for bringing back the shoe in its OG form. Undoubtedly, there will be some material improvements and perhaps a slightly different shape, but this retro release is a dream come true for many, so none of that matters right now – we’re already clearing some space for these.
This NIKE OMEGA FLAME is a SIZE? exclusive release expected to land on FRIDAY 18 JUNE: follow the banner below for stockist information.
