For many years, the NIKE AIR MAX PLUS 2 and NIKE AIR MAX PLUS 3 lived in the shadow of their predecessor – the original NIKE AIR MAX PLUS, or TN, as it’s often referred to – but that changed with the reintroduction of both later models in recent times. Let’s take a closer look at the three members of the Air Max Plus family and shine some of the spotlight on the two worthy successors to the mighty TN’s crown…
Any follow-up to the legendary Nike Air Max Plus was always going to have its work cut out: how on earth do you follow up a design as strong as the original model? At the turn of the century, the mad professors from Nike’s Innovation Kitchen were continuously pushing the boundaries of technology, introducing us to the Nike Shox concept and preparing for the launch of Nike SB in 2002 – as a result, the Tuned Air system seemed to come and go. But far from being a failure, the TN label became engrained in Nike’s DNA, and the return of both the Air Max Plus 2 and the Air Max Plus 3 has proven to be a savvy move on Nike’s behalf. All three models feature visible Air in the sole units to ensure that comfort levels are kept at a premium, but that’s where the similarities begin to fade, with each member of the family having a totally unique look to the upper sections. If you have yet to explore the TN bloodline, then now is the time.
