Nike AF1 x AM_

We’ve got the Air Force 1. We’ve got the Air Max. In a whimsical blend of the two, the Swoosh powerhouse tease official imagery of the Nike Air Max Force 1 Mid. Despite the mismatched name (which doesn’t quite have a ring just yet), the iteration is surprisingly sleek. Debuting in two crisp colourways, we’re very excited to see what this duo blend brings to the table.

Although the idea of a Nike Air Max / AF1 hybrid is a little bit unnatural at first glance, it’s not the craziest concept in the world. After all, both models are regarded as OG’s in the Nike hall of fame, debuting back in the ‘80s. The Oregon-based brand is no stranger to a crossover episode, just take a look at the Air Force 1 Low ACG or Air VaporMax 97 for instance.

A Closer Look at the Nike Air Max Force 1 Mid

Let’s have a closer look at the construction. Starting with the upper, this mismatched iteration references the Air Force 1 Mid, bringing a touch of nostalgia to the otherwise contemporary vibe. Flaunting a crisp pebbled leather base, all eyes are on the Swoosh cut out which takes on a wavy makeover. A retro ankle strap keeps things dynamic, providing that 80s steeze that both models were born out of. If this was a conventional AF1, we’d be expecting the lower sector to boast a solid midsole – but no! This is far from the AF1’s we’re used to seeing, especially throughout last year’s 40th anniversary roll-out of the model. Implementing the Air unit of the AM1 into the midsole, two air bubbles bring a modern persona that feels perfect for these hybrid kicks.

Arriving in two contrasting colourways, ‘White Black’ & ‘Sail Volt’, both Nike Air Max Force 1 Mid come from a slightly different angle. The stand-out feature of the sail palette has to be the lime-green Air unit, seamlessly complimenting the rest of the neutral upper. We have a hunch that this OG fusion might just be the next Swoosh hot cake, and to be honest, we’re here for it.
