Back in 1997, designer Christian Tresser shook up the sneaker scene with his bold creation: the Nike Air Max 97. He drew inspiration from Japan’s sleek bullet trains, and boom, the OG ‘Silver Bullet’ colourway hit the streets, with its shiny silver upper and bold hits of red.
Now, more than two decades later, the Swoosh is giving props to this legend with the Nike Air Max 97 Futura.
Harnessing the same beloved energy of the ‘Silver Bullet’, the Air Max 97 Futura sports a matte silver mesh upper with shiny silver overlays. The signature little red Swooshes take prime position on the sidewalls, staying true to the OG style. Of course, you know Nike had to keep this iteration respectful to its elder. However, a closer look reveals a handful of progressive new elements.
In the name of embracing a contemporary twist, this next-gen offering features double pull tabs around the tongue and a significantly chunky midsole and monster Air unit. Leather encapsulated lace eyelets inject a cutting-edge steez, almost as if the silhouette was hand-plucked from the future. This specific detailing seamlessly completes the look, accompanied with a slick black sole.
So, when’s it dropping? Well, Nike’s keeping us guessing on the exact date for the Nike Air Max 97 Futura ‘Silver Bullet’, but word on the street is it’ll hit stores sometime in SPRING 2024.
