The Nike AIR JORDAN 12 VARSITY RED sees Nike celebrating this luxury basketball design with a fresh and fiery execution that’s almost guaranteed to burn off the winter blues.
The launch of the Jordan 12 marked the point where Jordan Brand pulled away from Nike to establish itself as a true subsidiary label: as a result, the Jumpman logo takes centre stage on here. Michael Jordan wore the Air Jordan 12 during the 1996-97 season, helping the Chicago Bulls to win their fifth NBA Championship in the 1997 NBA Finals. First retro’d way back in 2003, we’re pleased to see the return of this modern classic once again. This red-hot edition has picked up another bizarre nickname in the form of ‘Reverse Influenza’: this is in reference to the 1997 NBA Finals when news broke that Michael Jordan was suffering from ‘flu-like symptoms’ and was extremely sick. Not only did Jordan play in the game, but he played 44 minutes, scoring 38 points, despite being visibly affected by the sickness. This colourway is the reverse of the classic black and red 12 that he wore on-court at the time. Let’s hope it can burn off other viral problems as well…
The AIR JORDAN 12 VARSITY RED is due to release on SATURDAY 26 DECEMBER. Click the banner below to see the release page containing full stockist details ahead of the drop.
