Rarely has a narrative surrounding a shoe ever been more memorable than that of Michael Jordan’s awe-inspiring game 5 performance vs. Utah in the 1997 NBA finals. Having been struck down by the flu, Jordan hadn’t slept or eaten, and took to the court in visible suffering. Despite barely being able to stand, Jordan poured in 38 points and led the Bulls to a vital and decisive victory over the Jazz, which would carry them on to their fifth championship of the decade and as many Finals MVP honours for Jordan.
In addition to the Hollywood-esque story attached to them, this AIR JORDAN 12 sports that classic Chicago colour scheme that has provoked the catchiest of portmanteaus for a nickname—bred. Black leather covers the radial-spoked upper, with matching laces and hardware, while the oversized bumpers on the medial and lateral sides are finished in Varsity Red pebbled leather. The dual-density sole unit is coloured to enhance the dramatic contrast in the upper accordingly. It’s good to see one of the most storied Jordan colourways get a faithful retro after the disappointment of the 2009 version.
