In a groundbreaking collaboration – Nike has teamed up with British record label Apron Records for the first-ever sneaker release from the label. Known for its influence in jazz, hip hop, and house music, Apron Records, founded in 2014 by Steven Julien (better known as FunkinEven), is venturing into the world of footwear with a unique take on the iconic Nike Air 180.
The Air 180 collaboration is a celebration of British music culture, marking a significant milestone for the label. Set to drop on March 8, 2025, the sneakers will be available in two striking colorways: ‘Vortex’ and ‘Bloodline’.
Notably, the ‘Bloodline’ colorway will be a UK-exclusive release, emphasizing the label’s deep ties to its British roots.
This release comes after a year-long celebration of Apron Records’ 10th anniversary in 2024, though the sneaker drop serves as a delayed celebration for the label’s impact on the music and cultural scene. The design of the Nike Air 180 features a mix of luxurious materials, including hairy suede, croc-leather, and reflective synthetics.
One of the most notable design features is the razor blade lace dubrae, which serves as a personal tribute to Julien’s youth. Growing up, Julien spent time in his aunt’s salon, where he developed a passion for music — a period that he immortalized with a razor blade tattoo on his hand.
The color palette of the sneaker features Dark Atomic Teal, Alabaster, and Off-Noir, all of which complement the vintage yellow tint of the iconic 180º Air unit, making it look like a pair of shoes straight out of the early ’90s. Additional details like the cow print Swoosh, yellow 180 logos on the tongue, and the subtle incorporation of the Apron Records logo on the heel and dubrae complete the design.
This collaboration marks a significant leap for Apron Records into the world of sneakers, following previous partnerships with other streetwear and sneaker brands like Patta. With the drop of these two distinctive colorways, Nike and Apron Records aim to celebrate the fusion of music and sneaker culture.
Keep an eye out for this highly anticipated release, hitting selected retailers on March 8, 2025.
