Joining the dots between a shared love of music, football and fashion – the ADIDAS SPEZIAL SS17 COLLECTION breaks through borders to effortlessly fuse together the aesthetics of British casuals and Jamaican reggae culture.
Over the past two years, the SPEZIAL capsule has fast become a lynchpin of the Originals output. Inspired by the heritage of adidas’ own extensive archive, its premium pieces draw on the brand’s past whilst also injecting a flurry of modern touches. This coming season, SPEZIAL drawing close parallels between two cultural movements that at first seem very different, but on closer inspection, share a mutual love and respect across music, football, and fashion. It is here that adidas find the stylistic benchmark for SPEZIAL’s own design-led interpretation of the role modern sportswear plays in these social movements.
Sure to be a hit with the dedicated followers of SPEZIAL, the SS17 footwear run includes instantly recognisable adidas silhouettes such as the Atlanta SPZL and Jogger SPZL, as well as new addition Garwen SPZL, which takes design cues from the long lost Brisbane leisure shoe.
On the clothes rail, the range plays host to military inspired jackets, full cut and sew tracksuits, and knitted polos that all pay homage to two equally sharply dressed subcultures. SS17 highlights include the return of adidas SPEZIAL’s premium tracksuit, with the Haslingden jacket being reconfigured to mirror the styles of both soundsystem culture and terrace wear.
The collection is showcased by a five minute visual lookbook featuring campaign hero and musician Chronixx, which was shot between Kingston and Lancashire by &SON.
