The ADIDAS ORIGINALS ARCHIVE ATHEN returns in a forest green and gum construction, making a handsome addition to the casual classic.
A solid shoe that first emerged in the tail end of the Swingin’ Sixties, it was originally released as the ‘Jaguar’ in 1967, but underwent a slight identity change the following year, taking on the present Athen moniker to fall in line with the newly launched City Series silhouettes. Offering middle ground between the affordable bowling shoe styled Rekord and steeper priced Gazelle, the Athen and its other City Series counterparts were the perfect choice in casual shoes, fusing a performance-led trainer with lifestyle elements to create a failsafe vintage classic.
As part of their ongoing Archive reissue series, size? dropped the shoe in a Greek flag inspired colourway last month, and now expand the colour palette with a Forest Green rendition of the lauded silhouette. Taking shape in rich Forest Green suede, the upper is further accented by the trademark 3-stripes in white with gold foil ‘Athen’ branding sitting above. The release is finished off with the suction-cupped Odenwald midsole, which was first utilised on the shoe in 1977. Gum in colour, it’s the perfect bed buddy for the dark green upper, resulting in a simple yet handsome addition to the Athen lineage.
The ADIDAS ORIGINALS ARCHIVE ATHEN FOREST GREEN will be available exclusively at SIZE? from FRIDAY 12 MAY. Until then, shop the store’s current ADIDAS ORIGINALS collection by following the banner below.
