The ADIDAS SPEZIAL SS16 COLLECTION continues to showcase the visual history of the brand with the three-stripes.
By uncovering the potent European identity that runs through the brand’s heritage, SPEZIAL has redefined this identity into a clean, modern concept that champions the past by bringing it into the future. For SS16 they turn their attention to the French Riviera – the iconic coastline on the country’s Southeastern edge – channeling the beautiful seascapes and effortless style of the Côte d’Azure into a brand new collection of apparel and footwear. To show off the latest collection they have again partnered with &SON to create a film, which is set in the vibrant city of Marseille and it’s idyllic coastline. The film tells multiple stories from a collective group of individuals who have a particular talent – be that music, sailing, poetry or diving set against the scenes that inspired the collection.
Eleven pieces of apparel are included in the collection, each of which are re-designed and re-invented in premium fabrics and modern cuts. These include technical and updated garments such as the Harwood Anorak a highly waterproof ‘Fisherman’ jacket, as well as some of the classics that we saw in the AW14 collection; such as the Beckenbauer tracksuit that for the SS16 COLLECTION will be released in a luxury grey pique. The standout pieces however have to be the Lytham Tracksuit in French marinière and the Chilcott Smock, which underpin the collection’s maritime influences, by channeling the Riviera’s influences into a refreshing contemporary range of classics and updated silhouettes.
A collection wouldn’t be complete without the accompanying footwear. This time around there is a choice of six classic silhouettes, which retain the brand’s DNA despite some tweaks. The uppers have been re-worked and new shoes that marry up different elements of much loved iconic styles are created. We see the Côte sport a tobacco brown suede upper sat on a matching gum brown sole; both the Lacombe and ZX 400 in a maritime inspired mix of white and navy; the 350 in the classic combination of white and black; and the Hochelaga in a choice of grey and red, or navy and blue, which sit on either an icy or gum sole-unit respectively.
The Riviera is renowned for being a very stylish part of the world, so it is no real surprise it has inspired such a good looking collection. The ADIDAS SPEZIAL SS16 COLLECTION will be split into two drops, with the first arriving on SATURDAY 19 MARCH and the second following on SUNDAY 27 MARCH, both of which, when the time comes, will be available via the banner below.
