Nike confirms the return of the Air Jordan 1 High OG ‘Shattered Backboard’ for the 40th anniversary. In celebration of Jordan Brand’s 40th anniversary, Nike is revisiting one of its most beloved Air Jordan 1 colourways. The iconic Air Jordan 1 High OG ‘Shattered Backboard’ is officially set to return, nearly a decade after its original release in 2015.
The sneaker is steeped in basketball history. Its nickname, ‘Shattered Backboard,’ pays tribute to a memorable moment from an exhibition game in Italy in 1985. During the match, a young Michael Jordan delivered a powerful dunk that shattered the glass backboard. The team Jordan played for wore orange uniforms that day—a bold colour that became the signature accent of this legendary colourway.
Since its debut, the ‘Shattered Backboard’ has become a fan favourite and a staple among sneaker enthusiasts. Over the years, Nike has released several iterations of the theme, including the Shattered Backboard 3.0, which introduced a glossy patent leather upper. Now, on the 10th anniversary of its original release, the classic version is making its long-awaited comeback.
After months of speculation that began in late 2024, Nike has now confirmed that the Air Jordan 1 High OG ‘Shattered Backboard’ will officially launch on July 12, 2025.
