After stealing the show in the first round of the esteemed adidas Consortium Cup – British retailer Footpatrol joins forces with the Three-Stripes to release the undeniably cool Gazelle 85.
Returning for its second year of competitive heat, the Consortium Cup invites retailers from across the UK to battle it out with their own takes on a plethora of adidas gems. Utilising timeless silhouettes such as the Samba, ZX8000, Centennial Low, Forum Low, Rivalry Low and Gazelle, each collaborator must bring their A game, injecting their own aesthetic into each model. Last year, the crown went to Offspring, meaning that the stakes have never been higher for a different retailer to bring it home.
Kicking things off with a bang (and a First Round win under their belt), Footpatrol stole the spotlight with a technical take on the Gazelle 85. Harnessing creative influence from technical outerwear and winter jackets, the Soho-based retailer has transformed the retro into a contemporary masterpiece. Donning a range of distinctive design elements throughout the exterior, let’s take a look at why this entry was a clear winner.
Taking a risk with an unconventional upper, these kicks boast a blend of thinsulate-down lining and nylon panelling, providing an airy, yet distinctive edge. The baby blue palette keeps things feeling soft, seamlessly complimenting hits of suede within the toe box and eyestay. Reiterating the competitive nature in which the iteration has been brought into fruition, both adidas and Footpatrol’s iconography proudly adopts each heel, whilst the Consortium Cup emblem graces the hangtag and insoles.
Rounded off with an opaque midsole, this special release knows exactly how to capture a retro essence through the lens of urban steez. Arriving in a bespoke box equipped with Consortium Cup wrapping paper, this collaboration makes a great collectors piece.
