Renowned in the world of fashion for his distinctive creative mind, Mongolian-Chinese designer Dingyun Zhang receives his first ever 3-Stripes collaboration, taking on none other than the adidas Samba ‘Core Black’.
When it comes to creating something that’s innovative and exciting, it’s often best to start with the foundation, and build from there. And of course, it doesn’t get much more classic than the adidas Samba. Known for his astounding work with powerhouses like Moncler and Marni, Zhang is truly a creative force to be reckoned with. Starting off his journey by designing for YEEZY whilst studying at Central Saint Martins, we have the creative to thank for a plethora of footwear gems from the Wave Runner Series to abstract Birkenstocks.
Now, Zhang is weaving his unique flair into the Samba, for an innovative and on-brand offering.
Adopting an entirely blacked out ‘Core Black’ persona, this take on the Samba couldn’t be more true to the artist if it tried. In terms of keeping things traditional, the silhouette’s low profile is kept the same, but not much else! Swapping out conventional leathers for the upper, a glossy patent base steals the spotlight, alongside Zhang’s distinctively abstract ‘puffy’ aesthetic. Suede enters across the toe box, eyestays and heel for a textural contrast, inviting yet another dynamic edge. Cementing the legacy, co-branding is proudly printed onto the tongue to honour this monochromatic masterpiece.
