Top Drop of 2023 | Kith x ASICS GEl-Kayano 14

ASICS’ retro runner styles swiftly emerged as some of the must-have silhouettes this year, particularly when collaborating with Kith. The Japanese brand collaborated with Ronnie Fieg’s label, lending its Gel-Kayano 14 model. This resulted in two exceptionally clean and minimalist colorways.

Both pairs share a similar aesthetic, featuring cream midsoles and silver metallic panelling. The overlays showcase a silver hue in both variants, while the base layer boasts a cream finish. The key difference lies in the accents. One colorway strategically incorporates black additions, infusing depth and dimension into the upper. The other opts for a peachy salmon hue, offering a soft and warm contrast to the cool silver tones.

Close Second of 2023 | Dime FT-2160

The Dime x ASICS GT-2160, a collaborative running shoe born from the partnership between Canadian skateboarding brand Dime and ASICS, is a modern reinterpretation of the ASICS GT-2160 from the 2000s.

In this latest iteration, a clean and neutral colour palette dominates. Crisp white and off-white hues adorn the mesh toe boxes, shoelaces, tongues and synthetic overlays that showcase the tiger stripes of the Japanese sportswear brand. The gradient effect begins at the quarter panel with a lighter gray tone, transitioning seamlessly into a more subdued gray shade toward the rear.

Dime’s branding is prominently featured on the lateral heel windows, the left sneaker’s tongues, and the insoles. Adding to the aesthetic appeal, a gradient effect extends across the midsoles, complemented by a stylish golden brushstroke accent.

Special Mention | Cecilie Bahnsen x ASICS GT-2160

The ASICS GT-2160 received a contemporary transformation courtesy of Danish fashion designer Cecilie Bahnsen. This running shoe debuted in two exceptional variations, featuring a transparent and elegantly black upper, adorned with meticulous detailing.

Inspired by the Mary Jane footwear style, this reimagined silhouette replaces the traditional tongue with a cut-out section secured by a floral strap and decorative laces, complemented by a subtle ASICS branding detail. Notably, the design strategically shifts attention away from the typical ASICS branding found on the medial and lateral panels. The outcome is a seamless blend of innovative design elements, transcending conventional norms while upholding ASICS’s legacy of quality and comfort.
