As 2023 comes to an end, we’re taking the time to look back on all of the incredible skate silhouettes brought to us by Jumpman. This year, we saw collaborative belters like the J Balvin AJ3 and A Ma Maniere AJ5, as well as solid revivals like the AJ11 Gratitude. In this round-up, we’ll be listing our Top Drop of 2023, Close Second and Special Mention Jordan sneakers, so continue reading to see what we decided on…
Amidst a LOT of incredible drops this year, there was one release that we felt stood out as a clear winner. Yes – you guessed it – it’s the Air Jordan 4 x Nike SB Pine Green. In a groundbreaking fusion, the realms of Nike SB and Air Jordan reform their alliance within this collaborative Air Jordan 4. Renowned among basketball enthusiasts as a pinnacle silhouette, its transformation into a skate-ready masterpiece is definitely one for the books.
Widely considered as the the most hyped sneaker of the year (up for debate, of course), this clean offering sold out instantly across the board. Nike even presented a special restock designed to reward loyal SB members who they felt would be most inclined to actually skate in the shoes. Whether those who got their hands on a pair actually used them for skating, or to capture ‘fit pics for their Insta feed, the silhouette deserves its flowers.
Celebrating three and a half decades of timeless design, the Air Jordan 3 Retro ‘White Cement Reimagined’ resurrects the essence of an iconic silhouette, reintroducing the original colourway and faithfully replicating the construction of the 1988 classic. First entering the scene on the feet of Michael Jordan during the Slam Dunk contest, this special AJ3 honours the original kicks alongside some unique additional detailing.
Although the model didn’t *quite* take the crown for us, it’s a very close second. Whenever the Jordan brand releases a sneaker that appeals to both old AND new sneaker connoisseurs, we see an explosive reaction. So much so that the shoe sold out in minutes. Blending rich heritage with a contemporary edge, the AJ3 White Cement Reimagined holds a special place in Jumpman history.
Deserving of a special mention, it’s the Travis Scott x Air Jordan 1 Low Olive. Landing as the Utopia-star’s first sneaker collab in women’s sizing, the sneaker expresses a retro flair that delivers time and time again. Adorned with distinctive elements throughout, the standout focal point within the Air Jordan series is undeniably the Swoosh. Upholding the tradition, the oversized Swoosh takes a bold twist, showcasing itself in an eye-catching olive green, adding an extra layer of prominence.
…And that concludes our top selections for an incredible year of Jordan sneaker releases. Will the Swoosh smash it once again in 2024? I guess we’ll just have to wait and see. Stay locked to our socials @thedropdate for the latest news & updates.
