Welcoming the Nike Día de Muertos Pack 2023, featuring four Swoosh bangers; the Air Jordan 1 Zoom CMFT 2, Dunk Low, Air Max 1 and Blazer Mid.
Over the decades, Nike has made it very clear that holiday seasons deserve to be honoured by going all-out. And what better way to go all-out than with special edition releases? This is a tradition that applies to holiday’s all over the world, from Halloween and Valentines Day to the Chinese New Year. We’re big fans of these collections, which often steer away from the design conventions that we’re used to seeing from the Swoosh enterprise. As we move out of October territory and approach November, we welcome the Mexican celebration Día de Muertos. Translating to Day Of The Dead, the holiday commemorates deceased loved ones. Bursting with life-affirming vibrancy and skull decorations, the ancient event blends beliefs from both Aztec rituals and Catholicism. Following 2022’s “Somos Familia” collection which took on the Dunk High, AF1, AM1 and AJ1 High Zoom CMFT, this year Nike are continuing to bring the heat.
A Closer Look at the Nike Día de Muertos Pack 2023
Kicking off with the Air Jordan 1 Zoom CMFT 2, the exterior expresses a distressed persona blending black and gold hues. Flower illustrations across the sidewalls and toe box complement a skull motif within the lateral heel and sockliner, affirming the festive theme. Next is the Dunk Low, boasting a gold base that’s perfect for the dynamic overlays. There’s always something new to look at with this Dunk, from the contrasting panelling to the hot pink Nike branding. Bright embroidery graces the lateral heel, keeping in-line with the colourful nature of the day.
Contrasting the rest of the Día de Muertos pack significantly is the Air Max 1. If you’re a lover of pink, we have a *slight* feeling you’re going to like this one. Not only does the ‘Hyper Pink’ colouring flood the upper, but also leaks into the midsole and Air unit. And if the head-turning hue wasn’t enough to draw attention, then the neon embroidery definitely will, adorned into a woven base. Finally, the Blazer Mid concludes the capsule, taking a much more refined approach. Donning a creamy build decorated with subtle blue touches in the stitching and upper, this iteration feels considerably laid-back. A textured gold and black Swoosh compliments the insole lining, whilst a gum midsole grounds the base.
