The NIKE X MEDICOM TOY SB DUNK LOW BE@RBRICK continues the longstanding collaborative partnership between Nike and the world-renowned Japanese toy design studio with a fur-laden take on the Dunk Low SB.
There’s no denying that Nike’s second attempt to crack the skate shoe market was an undeniable success. Involving the right people and keeping things simple was clearly the right recipe, as proven with the success of the Nike Dunk Low SB. Released back in 2002, it quickly became the Nike skate shoe and established itself as one of the most collectible models in the Nike catalogue. There have been plenty of colourways, special editions and variations to keep us on our toes – and this is no exception. The initial Nike x Medicom collaboration dropped in 2004 – a white Nike SB Dunk with College Blue and Orange accents, with the Black Denim edition following in early 2005. Ever since then, all collaborations between the brands have explored a variety of different materials and textures – reflective 3M, Gore-Tex, canvas to name a few — and for this newest release, black pony-style fur has been utilised throughout the upper section. The white midsole and translucent outsole keep things smart and allow the textures to do the talking, with the BE@RBRICK identity placed as a finishing sign-off on the heel panel, tongue and custom insoles.
