Here at The Drop Date, the PUMA BLAZE OF GLORY is one of our favourite silhouettes from the brand, and since the 2014 autumn/winter range was previewed a few months back, we’ve been waiting for these to emerge – say hello to the Blaze of Glory TECH PACK.
Why do we like the Blaze of Glory so much? Couple of good reasons – it takes some highlights of Puma’s mid 90’s running tech, (Trinomic wedge midsole, neoprene bootie and those futuristic looks) but swaps out the original disc fastening for a slick looking lacing system. The result is a shoe that comes correct in terms of shape and fit, and is about as comfortable as they come. Sneaker Freaker put them on the map with the ‘Shark Attack’ pack, and after a few inline versions that didn’t quite float our boats it’s great to see Puma doing the shoe justice without a collaborative partner on board.
For this ‘Tech Pack’ Puma isn’t going the high-concept theme route, but just giving us some premium goods to enjoy instead. The blaze’s multi-panelled design doesn’t need much embellishment, and Puma have taken a less-is-more approach – constructing the upper of smooth brushed leather and suede, adding superbly precise cross-punch perforations to the toebox and side panels, along with a matte full-grain toe wrap as a subdued finishing touch.
After some pretty wild (and pretty good) recent releases from Puma, the toned down approach really works here, letting the superb materials do the talking – and they really are a cut above, both in quality and finish, and look like they’ll wear in nicely. Our favourite is the all-black tonal version, but the burnt olive and washed blue colourways smash it too. Go true to size and your feet will thank you later!
Although already available in a few select spots in Europe, the PUMA BLAZE OF GLORY TECH PACK Editions launch in the UK this SATURDAY 27.9.14, and if you’re thinking about a quality alternative to the Huarache hype then look no further – than the RELEASE PAGE via the link-through below.
