The NIKE MARS YARD OVERSHOE continues Tom Sachs’ Mars Yard footwear concept, which was released as part of his SPACE PROGRAM 2.0: Mars exhibition back in May 2012.
Tom Sachs’ initial explorations with NASA’s scientists led to the groundbreaking Mars Yard shoe. Pushing the limits of physical and fitness demands experienced during space travel, Sachs took to the project with his unique ideas and designs, resulting in some of the most highly sought-after footwear in years. A true 50/50 collaboration between both the artist and Nike, a snow boot-like silhouette has been created, mirroring the moon boot styles worn by astronauts but with enough fashion appeal to make them extremely covetable by those in the know.
First released last year via an extremely limited raffle in London and once again by an even smaller showing during the creative’s Tokyo tea ceremonies, the Overshoe is finally reaching more regular spots this month. The shoe itself is light years ahead of anything else: Fidlock buckles, red pull tabs, suede and mesh uppers… this shoe has a lot going on. A true piece of art, you can be assured that these are going to fly out when they eventually launch…
