The return of the NIKE AIR MAX 98 has kept us on tenterhooks: would the original Tour Yellow/Midnight Navy colourway be part of the programme? Well, you can breathe a sigh of relief, because we can confirm that it is – and it’s a strong retro. Join us now for a closer look, as we take the 98 for a test run on the streets.
Whilst there will always be fans of the underdog, the Air Max 98 never amassed quite the same following that certain other members of the Air Max family did. According to the brand archives, there were actually two different designs for the 98: the more familiar of the two released in spring, whilst a slightly-redesigned edition dropped later the same year. A number of different colours have appeared over the past twenty years, but many will remember the original White/Team Orange, ‘The Gundam‘ (Royal Blue/Comet Red) and this Tour Yellow/Midnight Navy (AKA ‘The Michigan’) as the most popular colourways (although if anyone’s listening, we’d like to see the Grey/Varsity Royal edition make a reappearance too).
