This NIKE AIR ZOOM SPIRIDON – SIZE? EXCLUSIVE gives a new premium upgrade to the classic running model that we first saw back in 1997.
Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock, you’re probably well acquainted with the Spiridon, as it’s appeared in several guises over the past two years. Before this latest reissue, the last retro of the Spiridon dropped way back in 2005, when Nike gave it a low-key re-release that was tricky to find. The Spiridon’s history starts back in 1995 when Nike introduced Zoom Air technology. A thinner rendition of the much fatter Air Max airbag, the Zoom unit contains tensile fibres that are designed to flex and compress upon impact, providing adequate cushioning for the key areas. Following on from other great Zoom infused creations such as the Zoom Alpha and Zoom LWP, the Nike Air Zoom Spiridon dropped in 1997.
Over the years, there have been several special editions and exclusive colourways (the unreleased Opium colourways remain a pinnacle piece for many collectors), which has cultivated a revived interest in this often-overlooked shoe. For this special colourway, the size? crew overhauled several key elements of the Spiridon and replaced them with premium, lifestyle-focused materials. Firstly, this is the first time the reflective 3M stripes have been taken off the Spiridon, replacing them with strips of soft fleece that run along the sleek lines that divide the toe guard and mesh. The Duralon toe guard wrap surrounding the shoe has been swapped for a much more luxurious suede that changes the look of the shoe more than you might imagine. Dropping in either Medium Olive or Velvet Brown, it’s an interesting revision to an important model in the Nike Running archives.
Both colourways of the NIKE AIR ZOOM SPIRIDON – SIZE? EXCLUSIVE will be available through the size? Previews app and in all size? stores on SATURDAY 9 DECEMBER. In the meantime, check out the latest releases at SIZE? via the banner below.
