The SAUCONY ORIGINALS SHADOW 5000 MODERN CHOCOLATE PACK looks back on Massachusetts’ candy-making past with a rich duo fit for any sweet tooth.
A footwear brand with deep connections to Cambridge, Massachusetts, the forthcoming Chocolate Pack from Saucony draws inspiration from another local industry – confectionary. It was Irish immigrant John Hannon who established the first chocolate mill along the Neponset River, growing Cambridge as a centre for candy making, and gaining the Main Street its name as “Confectioners Row”. Sitting alongside Saucony’s top notch athletic footwear, the area birthed sweet shop names that are still loved today, including the Charleston Chew and Junior Mints, making for quite a productive town. Looking back on Cambridge’s strong industrial links, Saucony dresses their durable ‘80s running model, the 5000 Shadow, in two candy-inspired colourways just in time for Easter, aka the season of peak sugar consumption. Combining premium suede uppers that are overlaid with textured leather, the shoe comes in a deep chocolate brown or frosted sugary white, with both models sharing a Pigskin leather insole, gold speckled midsole, crystallised transparent outsole, and Saucony branding embroidered on the heel counter.
